If you are choosing a Blue Flag beach in Spain with a wheelchair, start with two kinds of place. The first is a beach where Cruz Roja ran adapted bathing in summer 2026, with amphibious chairs and someone to help. The second is a beach whose Blue Flag entry lists access on the sand and into the water, which is useful, and still not the same as a chair on the day. Lifeguard and access details come from each beach's Blue Flag entry; check the ramp, the toilet and the chair on arrival. These beaches also hold a Blue Flag certification. More of the coast is in the Spain guide.
Airport distances below are straight-line kilometres, not drive times. July sea temperatures are long-term averages for each beach, not a forecast.
Cruz Roja adapted bathing
This is the service to look for if you want help into the sea, rather than only a note that access exists. Cruz Roja's note of 30 September 2026 says adapted bathing rose 30.4 percent over the previous summer, which came to about 4,600 assists with amphibious chairs and other accessibility kit. From 21 June to 15 September, volunteers and lifeguards accompanied older people and people with reduced mobility on more than 15,185 occasions. Valencia had the largest increase, about 1,790 extra supports, then Cádiz, Girona, Las Palmas and Tenerife.
The same note puts the service on 47 beaches. Cruz Roja teams were on 190 beaches in all, and they rescued 1,109 people. The public directory is shorter. On 19 October 2026 it still listed 21 beaches, after the staffed season had ended, so those 21 names are not a promise of staff in October and they are not the missing 26 from the summer list. Read the Cruz Roja season note and the Cruz Roja beach directory before you rely on a chair being there.
Andalusia
- La Barrosa, Chiclana de la Frontera. Cruz Roja lists it as La Barrosa Central. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Excellent bathing water in 2025. July sea 21.9°C. A bus stop is about 94 metres away. Jerez Airport is 43.2 km away, and the town about 6.5 km.
- La Caleta, Cádiz. Access on the beach and into the water, and the same facilities as La Barrosa, including a lifeguard. It was not on the Cruz Roja directory, so treat it as listed access, not a chair service. Excellent in 2025. July sea 21.9°C. Bus stop about 99 metres away. Jerez Airport is 32.2 km away, the city about 1.3 km. OpenStreetMap shows public toilets at 88 metres, parking at 117 metres, and the Simon Bolívar stop at 99 metres.
- El Palo, Málaga. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard and sand. The Blue Flag entry does not list parking, toilets, showers or a bus stop. Excellent in 2025. July sea 22.5°C. Málaga Airport is 13.3 km away. OpenStreetMap shows public toilets at 137 metres, parking at 104 metres, and the El Palo stop at 185 metres.
La Barrosa is the easiest first stop on this coast if you want the Cruz Roja name and a full set of facilities in the Blue Flag entry. La Caleta is the town beach in Cádiz, close to the centre, with toilets and a bus stop a short walk away. El Palo is the one nearest Málaga Airport. Its Blue Flag entry is thinner on facilities, and the map is what puts a toilet and a car park within a few minutes' walk. The rest of this coast is in the Andalusia guide.
Balearic Islands
- Es Figueral, Santa Eulària des Riu. Cruz Roja lists it in Santa Eulalia del Río. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard and sand. The entry does not list parking, toilets, showers or a bus stop, so check those on arrival. Excellent in 2025. July sea 25.2°C. Ibiza Airport is 27.6 km away.
- Santa Eularia. Cruz Roja places it in Santa Eulalia del Río. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking and toilets. Showers are listed as no. A bus stop is about 396 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 24.9°C. Ibiza Airport is 18.7 km away.
Both of these were on the Cruz Roja directory, and both have warm July water by Spanish standards. Santa Eularia is the more complete entry: parking, toilets and a bus stop are named. Es Figueral tells you less about those, so it is a better bet if you already know the cove or can confirm facilities locally. More island beaches are in the Balearic Islands guide.
Canary Islands
- El Inglés, San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Cruz Roja lists it as Playa del Inglés. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bus stop about 177 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 21.9°C. Gran Canaria Airport is 26.5 km away.
- Maspalomas, same municipality. Cruz Roja lists Maspalomas-Faro. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. No 2025 bathing-water class is published, so this page does not call it Excellent. July sea 21.9°C. Gran Canaria Airport is 30 km away. OpenStreetMap shows public toilets at 36 metres, parking at 107 metres, and the Faro de Maspalomas stop (Andén 6) at 425 metres.
- Meloneras, same municipality. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking and toilets. Showers are listed as no. Bus stop about 627 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 21.9°C. Gran Canaria Airport is 30.3 km away.
- San Agustín, same municipality. Cruz Roja lists San Agustín. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bus stop about 323 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 21.9°C. Gran Canaria Airport is 23.4 km away.
These four sit on the same southern shore of Gran Canaria, and all four were on the Cruz Roja directory. El Inglés, Meloneras and San Agustín were Excellent in 2025. Maspalomas has the closest mapped toilets, about 36 metres from the beach, and it is the one without a 2025 water class. July water here is 21.9°C, cooler than Ibiza and close to the Andalusian figure. The island set is in the Canary Islands guide.
Catalonia
- Adarró, Vilanova i la Geltrú. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, sand, parking, toilets and showers. A lifeguard is not listed, so confirm cover before you swim. Bus stop about 311 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 23.7°C. Barcelona Airport is 31.7 km away, the town about 1.5 km. OpenStreetMap shows public toilets at 55 metres, parking at 100 metres, and a bus stop at 311 metres.
- Ribes-Roges, same town. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bus stop about 208 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 23.7°C. Barcelona Airport is 31.2 km away.
- Arrabassada, Tarragona. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bus stop about 119 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 25.1°C. Reus Airport is 9.6 km away, the city about 1.9 km.
None of these three was on the Cruz Roja directory on 19 October 2026. They are listed access, with Excellent water, not an amphibious-chair team. Ribes-Roges is the Vilanova beach that does name a lifeguard. Arrabassada is the warm one, and the closest of this group to an airport. More of the coast is in the Catalonia guide.
Valencian Community
- Nord, Gandia. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Excellent in 2025. July sea 25.0°C. Valencia Airport is 61.3 km away. It was not on the Cruz Roja directory, so don't expect that chair service here.
- Marineta Cassiana, Dénia. Access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bus stop about 46 metres away. Excellent in 2025. July sea 25.0°C. Alicante Airport is 85.4 km away, the town about 1.9 km. OpenStreetMap shows the La Marineta stop at 46 metres.
Nord is a full facilities entry in Gandia, and the thing to know is what it is not: Cruz Roja's October directory did not include it. Marineta Cassiana is similar on facilities, with the bus stop almost on the beach. July water at both is 25°C. The regional set is in the Valencian Community guide.
How we picked these beaches
Spain has 643 Blue Flag beaches. 239 of them list wheelchair access on the beach and into the water, and 117 of those were classed Excellent for bathing water in 2025. The first shortlists are names from the Cruz Roja directory of 19 October 2026 that also have a Blue Flag page. The later ones list that access and were not on the directory, so they are not a staffed chair service.

Questions visitors ask
Does a Blue Flag access note mean a wheelchair can reach the sea?
It means the beach's Blue Flag entry lists access on the beach and into the water. That is not a measured ramp, and it is not a beach wheelchair waiting on the sand. Cruz Roja's assisted bathing, with amphibious chairs, is a separate service. In 2026 it ran from 21 June to 15 September on 47 beaches. The public directory on 19 October 2026 still showed 21 names. Use those names if you want the chair service, and still check the ramp on the day.
Which beaches had Cruz Roja assisted bathing in 2026?
Cruz Roja's note of 30 September 2026 says the adapted bathing service ran from 21 June to 15 September and was available on 47 beaches. Teams were on 190 beaches in total. The public directory, checked on 19 October 2026, listed 21 names. That check was after the staffed season, so the directory is not a promise that anyone is on the sand in October, and it is not the full summer list. Gandia Nord was not among those 21 names.
Is La Barrosa a practical wheelchair beach?
La Barrosa in Chiclana de la Frontera is the Cruz Roja beach "La Barrosa Central". The Blue Flag entry lists access on the beach and into the water, free entry, a lifeguard, sand, parking, toilets and showers. Bathing water was Excellent in 2025. July sea temperature is 21.9°C. A bus stop is about 94 metres away. Jerez Airport is 43.2 km away in a straight line, and the town is about 6.5 km away. OpenStreetMap does not show a toilet or car park within 500 metres, so use the facilities named on the beach entry and confirm them on arrival.
What was the bathing water like in 2025?
Where a 2025 class is published for a beach on this page, it is Excellent, the top class under the EU Bathing Water Directive. Of the 239 Spanish Blue Flag beaches that list access both on the beach and into the water, 117 have that 2025 class, and all 117 are Excellent. Maspalomas is the exception in the Cruz Roja shortlist: access is listed, and no 2025 class is published, so this page does not call Maspalomas Excellent.
